Winchester City Flyers were victorious in the Third Round Qualifying of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Yeovil Town.

Shayne Prasad’s first-half goal was enough to seal the Flyers’ spot in the draw for the First Round Proper for only the second time in the club’s history.

It was a windy day at the Charters Community as Emma Pearmine made two changes to her starting line-up from the 7-1 demolition of Fleet Town.

Annie Northwood got her first start in place of the cup-tied Chelsie Hay, while Laura Vokes and Prasad also stepped into the line-up.

Winchester started brightly as Lydia Moulding and winger Laura da Silva saw efforts blocked in the opening exchanges.

Yeovil’s Emily Hall was the busier of the two goalkeepers and it set a trend for the afternoon.

Both sides carved out opportunities; Zara Hunt brought the speed for the Glovers; however, she couldn’t get the better of Moulding or Vokes to shoot at Ellie Parker.

Crosses and passes were made into the Yeovil area, but every time Hall was first to them to claim easily.

Vokes played a dangerous ball across the face of the Town goal that Hall expertly pushed away before the Flyers finally broke the deadlock in the 34th minute.

A move that started from Hannah Chalk saw the ball find da Silva to play centrally to Northwood, who picked out the run of Prasad.

The winger had the space on the right to drive into the box, take a touch before sliding the ball into the bottom left-hand corner for the lead.

Northwood dragged a shot wide moments later before da Silva had her strike claimed by Hall as the game headed to the break.

Pearmine switched things up top as she brought on Wylie for Northwood.

Yeovil came out the traps hard and fast, looking for an instant impact to get themselves back into the game.

Moulding and Vokes dealt with Hunt’s run into the box before Abby Vernon stopped Wylie’s run up the other end.

A long ball wasn’t dealt with by Yeovil’s defence, and it allowed da Silva to break into the box, where Hall well saved her shot.

The best chance of the second-half fell to Kayleigh Tonks; her powerful shot was just about pushed onto the crossbar by Hall before Lesley Spearing cleared the rebound.

More shots came for the Flyers, and these were either claimed by Hall or went wide of the goal.

At the full-time whistle, Winchester claimed the win and a place in the First Round Proper.

The draw for the next round is being made at 7pm on the Adobe Women’s FA Cup social channel,s including YouTube.
