Annie Northwood's 91st minute winner seals Flyers place in the Quarter-Finals

Winchester City Flyers left it late as they came from a goal down to beat AFC Stoneham 2-1 in the Hampshire Women's Senior Cup First Round on Sunday.

Stoneham took the lead just past the half hour mark but Libby Wilkinson's 13th goals of the season on the stroke of half-time saw the two teams level at the break.

Both teams pushed for a winner and as time ticked on the ball found Annie Northwood in the middle of the box to put the Flyers in front and send them through.

First Team Coach Gabriel Hedlier stepped up to take charge of the fixture as manager Emma Pearmine was unfortunately unavailable and he selected a strong side with Laura da Silva and Kayleigh Tonks back amongst the squad.

They were the two changes to the team after the win at Reading.

Winchester nearly had the perfect start to proceedings with Vinnie Nkomo raced onto a poor back pass from the Stoneham captain.

The forward was clean through on goal however, the goalkeeper got down really low to deny the opener inside 18 seconds.

It was a positive start for the hosts, who found themselves in some good positions, but they lacked quality on the ball in the final third.

Wilkinson saw a good header comfortably saved by the keeper before Ellie Parker was called into action at the other end who had to parry the ball over the crossbar.

More shots came for both teams but neither truly tested the keepers including two attempts from Wilkinson and one for Emma Whitlock.

With 33 minutes gone, the deadlock was broken.

Stoneham launched an attempt with a long ball bouncing over the defence which caught both defenders and Parker off guard allowing the visitors to nip through to grab the opener.

The Flyers pushed forward looking to grab a leveller before the break and it came two minutes into additional time.

Da Silva cut inside before flicking the ball through to Nkomo, who saw her effort saved by the keeper.

However, before Stoneham could clear their lines, Wilkinson stepped across the loose ball to find the space to fire home her eighth goal in five games.

After the break Winchester had several attacks.

Emily McDonough had an effort go wide before Northwood had one effort saved by the keeper and another she sliced wide.

Substitute Shayne Prasad was then put through by Tonks where she turned her defender only to scuff her shot wide.

More chances came for the hosts who just couldn't find the finish.

The game headed into injury-time and the game looked almost set to head to penalties. Almost.

Lydia Moulding launched the ball long where Tonks controlled on the wing and drove forward bypassing two defenders before cutting back to Northwood who had all the space in the world to turn and put the Flyers ahead.

People could have been forgiven for thinking that was game over however, Stoneham thought differently as they came forward in numbers however, the eventual shot was well blocked by Parker before Charlottle Warhurst cleared for a corner.

It was a nervy wait for the final whistle but it came to cheers and relief of the home side who now move into the Quarter-Finals of the Senior Cup.

Full-time: Flyers 2 AFC Stoneham 1
