Winchester City Flyers ran out 3-0 winners over Sholing in the Southern Region Premier Division.

Annie Northwood scored for the third game in a row to give the Flyers the lead heading into half-time.

The good performance continued with Libby Wilkinson striking from range before Charlie Snelling headed home to wrap up an impressive win.

With players out injured Emma Pearmine looked to the depth in her squad as she made two changes to the starting line-up and Eliza Eaton stepped up to the First Team following her good performances with the Reserves; new signing Kayleigh Tonks also made the bench.

Winchester got off to a strong start with Northwood had two early efforts denied by Sholing goalkeeper Sarah Kelsall.

The striker was given another opportunity when Amy Smith overturned possession and put Northwood through on goal as she beat the offside trap.

Northwood drove into the box where she could cooly slot the ball into the bottom righthand corner for her seventh goal of the season.

Sholing had a chance quickly after to draw things level, but the forward’s effort was scuffed well wide.

Winchester grew into the game and launched several attacks.

Libby Wilkinson had a shot go wide from range before Smith was unable to get a decent connection on a cross from Sharna Capel-Watson.

The Flyers enjoyed more of the ball but couldn’t carve out many clear-cut chances.

Sholing weren’t out of things however, Lani Dickinson didn’t put enough power into her shot to test Ellie Parker.

Vinnie Nkomo went agonisingly close to extending the Winchester lead but Kelsall made the save from the diving header.

Just the one goal separated the two sides at the break and from the start of the second-half the Flyers were on the attack.

In the 55th minute tempers flew as Sam Burt was involved in an altercation that saw her booked and then two minutes Northwood received a yellow card for an incident.

The game did settle down and Northwood continued to cause problems for the Sholing backline however, she couldn’t keep her efforts on target.

With 67 minutes played Wilkinson doubled the lead with a powerful shot from 25-yards out for her first goal of the season.

Sholing had to get back into the game and their best effort came when Amber O’Reilly was put through one-on-one with Parker.

The keeper came off her line to close the distance and put the striker off enough and blocked the shot to protect the clean sheet.

Within minutes Winchester had the game wrapped up.

Wilkinson’s corner was headed into the air by Lydia Moulding, and it was Snelling who was first to it heading home with Kelsall off her line.

There were limited chances for both teams who created openings but nothing that truly tested either keeper.

Late in the game Snelling went close to a second but was denied by the fingertips of Kelsall.

Siena Millen had her first time shot claimed by Parker and teenager Eaton also saw her effort caught by the Sholing keeper.

The final whistle came to pure delights for the home side who recorded their first league win of the season moving them up to seventh in the table four points behind Sholing with a game in hand.
