Winchester City Flyers under-18 Merlins had to come back twice to draw 2-2 against Chineham Tigers in the Hampshire Girls Youth Football League under-18s Division Two.
As Storn Bert hit the United Kingdom the Merlins travelled to Basingstoke in the only league game that had beaten the weather although the pitch wasn't in the best of conditions
While games were being called off left, right and centre Merlins made the trip to Basingstoke to play Chineham in the league.
It was a strong start for Winchester City who saw a lot of the ball in the first-half.
The visitors couldn't convert possession into clear-cut chances, and the few they created were denied by a combination of Chineham's resolute defending and some unfortunate bounces.
Despite the dominance it was Chineham who broke the deadlock.
A long range shot arced over Lottie Cornick that hit the inside of the post and was then forced over the line at the back post meaning the Flyers went into the break a goal down.
After the half-time break things were more even as the teams had to adapt to a deteriorating playing surface.
Winchester levelled with a quality attack.
Shona Wright picked up the ball in the middle before feeding Millie Negus into the left channel who squared for Freya Peacock at the back post to score for the sixth game in a row.
Chineham hit back quickly to restore their lead when a cross was converted inside the six-yard box.
The Merlins fought to find a second equaliser in the game and they were rewarded late on.
Wright and Frankie Hitchins combined well from a short corner and the routine was converted by Caitlin Willcock who found the bottom corner.
Winchester looked motivated from the leveller and continued to put pressure on Chineham.
Negus went close to winning the game at the death as she raced onto a great through-ball only for the goalkeeper to save with her legs.
The final whistle came and the teams had to settle for a share of the points as Winchester showed some great resilience to come from behind twice.
Full-time: Chineham Tigers 2 Merlins 2
