Winchester City Flyers under-18 Merlins made it back to back wins as they came away victorious against Warsash Wasps in the Hampshire County Girl League Under-18s Division Two.
In only their second outing of the season, the Merlins hosted Warsash looking to get some points on the board after an excellent cup win.
Winchester started the game brightly forced the Wasps goalkeeper into several good saves early on.
Freya Peacock broke the deadlock with what proved to be the only goal of the first-half.
Shona Wright won the ball in midfield before finding Sophie Richards to play a lovely through ball for Peacock to drive onto and finish with a powerful shot over the keeper.
The Merlins continued to create chance however, the visitors always looked a threat on the counter keeping the home keeper, Georgia Ormston, on her toes.
Eventually the pressure from Warsash paid off.
The visitors overturned possession in midfield and then released a runner on the left who then finished neatly for the equaliser.
Ormston was forced off not long after the goal and that saw Caitlin Willcocks to deputise in goal.
It almost looked like the game was heading towards a draw, but the Merlins found a goal right at the end.
Richards showed her skill and determination to drive forwards picking out Milla Benjamin to square for Catherine Mascall who rifled home her shot for what looked like the winner.
Compared with the rest of the game, the Merlins managed to see out the final few minutes relatively comfortably, picking up a well-deserved three points and their first league win.
