Preview | Woodley United vs Winchester City Flyers
Winchester look to bounce back with trip to Woodley
Emma Pearmine will be looking for a reaction from her team after last Sunday’s narrow defeat to Oxford City.
Winchester City Flyers lost 2-1 after going down to 10-players with less than 20 minutes remaining.
Libby Wilkinson saw red not long after Emily McDonough had found an equaliser and the pressure from Oxford paid off in the end as they won the game in the 82nd minute.
This Sunday’s opponents come into the game off the back of a 4-2 over Badshot Lea.
United too an early lead through Lauren Devlin before Sarah Lawrence doubled the advantage in first-half injury-time.
Badshot came out into the second half and within 20 minutes had the game all square.
The game was on a knife edge but the hosts restored their lead in the 81st minute through Hollie Barnfield before Lawrence scored again in injury-time to make it 4-2.
It’s expected to be a tough game as Woodley finished third last season.
Last time our Winchester ran out 5-1 winners at Winklebury with all the goals coming in the second-half.
Wilkinson scored a hat-trick in a game that also saw five goals scored during a crazy nine-minute period.
The last time the two sides met at Bulmershe Pavillion, Woodley won 3-1 thanks to two late goals from Bonnie Messitt and Katie Hudson.
Tempers flared on the day as Madelyn Sawyer and Charlie Snelling saw red.
The Flyers head into the game without Wilkinson who starts a two-game suspension and Ellie Parker who is away in Italy with the England Beach Soccer team.
